Show the answer and explanation
Answer: (d) Statement-I is incorrect, but Statement-II is correct
US apples are imported; GM food imports do need approval.
Statement by statement
1. ✗ WRONG India imports apples from the USA (Washington apples); in 2023 it even removed the extra retaliatory duty on them.
2. ✓ CORRECT Importing GM food needs prior approval (FSSAI, under the Food Safety and Standards Act; GEAC for living GM organisms).
Why the others are wrong
(a) Accepts that India imports no US apples.
(b) Accepts that India imports no US apples.
(c) Accepts no US apples and rejects the GM-approval rule.
The trap
The GM rule sounds like it would block US apples — but US apples are not GM.
🔒 GM food imports: FSSAI approval. US apples: extra 20% duty removed in 2023.
