UPSC Prelims 2009 · Agriculture · Farm Money

Consider the following statements: Which of the statements given above is/are correct?

  1. The Commission for Agricultural Costs and Prices recommends the Minimum Support Prices for 32 crops.
  2. The Union Ministry of Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution has launched the National Food Security Mission.
Show the answer and explanation

Answer: (d) neither 1 nor 2

The crop count and the ministry are both wrong.

Statement by statement

1. ✗ WRONG CACP recommended MSPs for about 25 crops, not 32.

2. ✗ WRONG The National Food Security Mission (2007) was launched by the Ministry of Agriculture, not Consumer Affairs.

Why the others are wrong

(a) Accepts 32 crops.

(b) Gives NFSM to the food ministry.

(c) Accepts both.

The trap

NFSM sounds like a “food” ministry scheme — but it raises production, so it is Agriculture’s.

🔒 CACP (1965) → MSP for 22 crops today. NFSM (2007) = Agriculture ministry. NFSA (2013) = Food ministry.
