Ramsar Sites (Wetlands): asked and not asked.
UPSC has asked 19 of these 33. 10 came more than once. 14 have not come yet. Lock the repeated ones first, then read the rest.
First, the concept
The Ramsar Convention on wetlands was signed in 1971 at Ramsar, Iran. India joined in 1982. World Wetlands Day is 2 February.
India has more than 90 Ramsar sites (about 96 by the end of 2025). Tamil Nadu has the most (20); Uttar Pradesh has 10. The count grows every year, so check the latest number.
The Montreux Record lists Ramsar sites in danger. From India, Keoladeo and Loktak are on it; Chilika was removed in 2002 after it recovered.
