Match List I (Timber) with List II (Country): A. Cedar · B. Douglas Fir · C. Mahogany · D. Teak — 1. Myanmar · 2. Canada · 3. Mexico · 4. Honduras
- (a) A-3, B-2, C-1, D-4
- (b) A-3, B-2, C-4, D-1
- (c) A-2, B-3, C-4, D-1
- (d) A-2, B-3, C-1, D-4
Show the answer and explanation
Answer: (b) A-3, B-2, C-4, D-1
Cedar – Mexico, Douglas fir – Canada, mahogany – Honduras, teak – Myanmar.
The idea
Two pairs are enough. Teak is the famous timber of Myanmar (Burma teak). Douglas fir is a giant conifer of the Pacific coast of Canada and the USA. Those two fix the answer.
Teak → Myanmar: removes (a) and (d) → Douglas fir → Canada: removes (c) → Answer (b)
Why the others are wrong
(a) Puts mahogany in Myanmar and teak in Honduras — swapped.
(c) Puts Douglas fir in Mexico — it is a conifer of the Pacific North-West.
The trap
Teak–Myanmar (Burma teak) and Douglas fir–Canada are the sure pairs.
Also know
Hardwoods come from broad-leaved trees, mostly tropical: teak, mahogany, ebony, rosewood, sal. Softwoods come from conifers of cold lands: pine, fir, spruce, cedar. In India teak grows best in the monsoon forests of central India; the Himalayan cedar is the deodar.
🔒 Teak: Myanmar, India · Mahogany: Central America (Honduras) · Douglas fir: Canada/US Pacific coast.
