The Panda belongs to the same family as that of

Show the answer and explanation

Answer: (a) Bear

The giant panda is a bear (Ursidae) that eats bamboo.

The idea

There are two “pandas” and they are not close relatives. The giant panda of China is a true bear that has turned to eating bamboo. The red panda of the Himalaya is a much smaller animal in a family of its own. Both grew a thumb-like wrist bone for holding bamboo, each on its own.

Giant panda → bear family → China → Red panda → its own family → eastern Himalaya, including India

Why the others are wrong

(c) Pandas are carnivores (order Carnivora) like dogs, but not in the dog family.

The trap

The red panda is NOT a bear — it has its own family (Ailuridae). The question means the giant panda.

Also know

When unrelated animals develop the same feature because they live the same way, it is called convergent evolution. India has four bears: sloth bear, Asiatic black bear, Himalayan brown bear and sun bear.

🔒 Giant panda = bear family. Red panda = its own family, found in India (Sikkim, Arunachal).
