Iron Ore of India: asked and not asked.

UPSC has asked 5 of these 17. 2 came more than once. 12 have not come yet. Lock the repeated ones first, then read the rest.

First, the concept

Iron ore comes in four kinds. Magnetite has the most iron (about 72 percent), then haematite (about 70 percent), then limonite and siderite.

Most of India's ore is haematite, from the old Dharwar rocks of the peninsula.

Odisha is the largest producer. Karnataka holds most of the magnetite. The Odisha–Jharkhand belt and the Bailadila range of Chhattisgarh are the big haematite belts.

Ore for export goes out through Paradip, Visakhapatnam, Mormugao and New Mangalore.
