Which of the following tribes is not found in Central India?

Show the answer and explanation

Answer: (a) Todas

The Todas are a pastoral tribe of the Nilgiri hills (Tamil Nadu).

The idea

Regional tribal belts follow landscapes and settlement history rather than forming neat exclusive blocks. A broad central Indian belt differs from the southern Nilgiri highlands. Identify the community whose home landscape lies outside the region asked about.

Why the others are wrong

(b) Gonds — Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh.

(c) Mundas — Jharkhand.

(d) Bhils — Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, Gujarat.

Also know

Kota, Irula and Kurumba are other communities associated with the Nilgiri region. Toda pastoral life is closely linked to buffalo, while nearby communities have distinct languages and livelihoods. The Nilgiris lie where the Western and Eastern Ghats meet, and should not be confused with the Chhotanagpur plateau.

🔒 Todas: Nilgiri, buffalo herders, PVTG. Bhils: largest tribe; Gonds: second largest.
