Show the answer and explanation
Answer: (a) 1 only
Deaths within a month are part of IMR; only the “per 100” is wrong.
Statement by statement
1. ✓ CORRECT IMR counts every death before the first birthday — which includes the deaths in the first month (the neonatal deaths).
2. ✗ WRONG IMR is per 1,000 live births, not per 100.
Why the others are wrong
(b) IMR is per 1,000, not per 100.
(c) Accepts “per 100”.
(d) Statement 1 is true: IMR includes the first month.
The trap
Statement 1 does not say “only within a month” — it says IMR takes those deaths into account, which it does.
🔒 IMR = deaths under 1 year per 1,000 live births (includes neonatal = first 28 days). India IMR ~26 (SRS 2020).
