- (b) 2 only

Show the answer and explanation
Answer: (a) 1 only
Only the low-rainfall statement holds.
Statement by statement
1. ✓ CORRECT The Red Sea lies in a desert belt and gets very little rain; evaporation is very high, so it is one of the saltiest seas.
2. ✗ WRONG Seasonal rivers (e.g. the Barka from Eritrea) and wadis do reach it — “no water” is too absolute.
Why the others are wrong
(b) Some river water does enter it.
(c) Statement 2 is too absolute.
(d) Statement 1 is correct.
The trap
“No water” — an absolute claim; seasonal inflow exists.
🔒 Red Sea: no permanent rivers, very high evaporation, salinity ~40‰. Joined to the Mediterranean by the Suez Canal, to the Arabian Sea by Bab-el-Mandeb.
