UPPCS Environment Gap Sheet: National Parks and Sanctuaries.

UPPCS has asked 22 of these. 4 have not been asked yet. Lock the first list, then read the second: it holds what UPPCS has not used yet.

First, the concept

A national park has stricter protection than a wildlife sanctuary: no grazing and no private rights inside. Both come under the Wildlife (Protection) Act, 1972.

India has over 100 national parks. Jim Corbett (1936, as Hailey National Park) was the first. Hemis (Ladakh) is the largest.

UPPCS asks a park with its state and its famous animal.

⚠️ Keibul Lamjao is in Manipur and floats on Loktak Lake. Dudhwa is UP's only national park; the others in UP are sanctuaries. Hemis, not Jim Corbett, is the largest national park.

'Asked' and 'not asked' are checked against every UPPCS question on this site. 'Not asked yet' does not mean it will surely come.
