UPPCS Medieval History Gap Sheet: Bhakti and Sufi Saints.

UPPCS has asked 26 of these. 7 have not been asked yet. Lock the first list, then read the second: it holds what UPPCS has not used yet.

First, the concept

Bhakti connected devotion with accessible languages and challenged barriers to worship. Distinguish nirguna devotion to a formless God from saguna devotion to a personal deity; link every saint to a teaching, text or centre.

Sufi orders followed chains of teachers and used the khanqah as a centre of spiritual life. Orders differed in their use of music and relations with rulers; a shrine location alone does not identify the whole order.
