First, the concept
Separate a raid from a conquest. The Arab advance secured Sindh, Ghaznavid campaigns sought wealth and frontier control, and Ghurid victories opened the way to a lasting Sultanate.
Pair each battle with its opponent, year and place. Rajput resistance continued after Tarain, and the later history of Mewar must be kept separate from the early kingdoms already studied.

Arab and Ghaznavid advance
- Sindh conquest, 712 · Muhammad bin Qasim defeated Dahir; he was an Arab commander.
- Debal port campaign · Debal was an early target of Qasim's Sindh campaign.
- Alp Tegin and Ghaznavid beginnings · Alp Tegin established the Ghazni power base; Sabuktigin consolidated it.
- Somnath raid, 1025–26 · Mahmud attacked Somnath during Bhima I's rule in Gujarat.
- Tarikh-i-Yamini · Al-Utbi recorded the history of Mahmud's reign.
Ghurid victories
- Multan campaign, 1175 · Muhammad Ghori's first Indian campaign targeted Multan.
- First Tarain, 1191 · Prithviraj III defeated Muhammad Ghori.
- Second Tarain, 1192 · Ghori defeated Prithviraj III; this enabled expansion towards Delhi.
- Ghurid Lakshmi coins · Some coins of Muhammad Ghori retained the Lakshmi type and Indian legends.
- Bakhtiyar's Bengal conquest · Bakhtiyar Khalji displaced Sena rule in parts of Bengal.
Later Rajput resistance
- Rana Kumbha's Vijay Stambha · The victory tower at Chittor is associated with Kumbha's victory over Malwa.
- Rana Sanga at Khanwa, 1527 · The Mewar ruler led the coalition defeated by Babur.
- Maharana Pratap at Haldighati, 1576 · Pratap fought a Mughal army led by Man Singh; resistance continued afterwards.
- Hakim Khan Sur's contingent · Hakim Khan Sur led an Afghan contingent on Pratap's side at Haldighati.
- Amar Singh's settlement, 1615 · Mewar reached an agreement with the Mughals under Jahangir.
- Marwar succession dispute, 1678 · Jaswant Singh's death was followed by Mughal intervention and Rathor resistance.
