First, the concept
Muhammad bin Tughlaq sought ambitious changes in the capital, currency and agriculture. Firoz Shah relied more on canals, welfare institutions and concessions to established interests.
Keep the dynastic sequence clear: Tughlaq, Sayyid, then Lodi. Timur weakened Delhi, but the Sayyid dynasty began later; the Afghan Lodis ended at Panipat in 1526.

Tughlaq experiments
- Ghiyasuddin's foundation, 1320 · Ghazi Malik took the title Ghiyasuddin Tughlaq and founded the dynasty.
- Tughlaqabad fort · Ghiyasuddin Tughlaq built this fortified city near Delhi.
- Capital transfer, 1327 · Muhammad bin Tughlaq moved the capital towards Devagiri, renamed Daulatabad.
- Token currency, c. 1329–30 · Base-metal tokens were assigned silver value; counterfeiting damaged the scheme.
- Diwan-i-Amir Kohi · Muhammad bin Tughlaq created an agriculture department.
- Doab revenue increase · Muhammad bin Tughlaq increased assessment in the Ganga–Yamuna Doab; famine worsened hardship.
- Firoz's canals · Firoz Shah Tughlaq promoted canal irrigation.
- Diwan-i-Khairat · Firoz Shah created a charity department, including help for poor Muslim women's marriages.
- Diwan-i-Bandagan · Firoz Shah maintained a department for slaves.
- Dar-ul-Shifa · Firoz Shah supported a hospital for treatment of the sick.
- Jizya on Brahmins · Firoz Shah withdrew the earlier exemption of Brahmins from jizya.
- Timur's invasion, 1398 · Timur sacked Delhi during Nasiruddin Mahmud Tughlaq's reign.
Sayyid and Lodi succession
- Khizr Khan's foundation, 1414 · Khizr Khan established the Sayyid dynasty after defeating Daulat Khan.
- Sayyid ruler order · Khizr Khan, Mubarak Shah, Muhammad Shah, then Alam Shah.
- Bahlol's accession, 1451 · Bahlol Lodi founded the Afghan Lodi dynasty.
- Sikandar's Gulrukhi poetry · Sikandar Lodi wrote Persian poetry under the pen name Gulrukhi.
- Gaz-i-Sikandari · Sikandar Lodi introduced a standard measure used in land measurement.
- Grain zakat exemption · Sikandar Lodi removed zakat on foodgrains.
- Ibrahim's defeat, 1526 · Babur defeated and killed Ibrahim Lodi at the First Battle of Panipat.

- Agra foundation, 1504 · Sikandar Lodi founded Agra on the Yamuna and made it a seat of government.
- Jaunpur foundation, 1359 · Firoz Shah Tughlaq founded Jaunpur.
