First, the concept
The freedom movement had three kinds of books: economic critiques of British rule (the drain theory), reform tracts against caste and custom, and the leaders' own accounts.
Link a book to its author's cause and the pair is hard to forget: Dadabhai and the drain, Phule and caste, Tilak and the Vedas.

⚠️ 'Mother India' was written by Katherine Mayo against India; Lajpat Rai answered it with 'Unhappy India'. 'Indian Unrest' is by Chirol, not by Tilak. Gita Rahasya was written in Mandalay, Discovery of India in Ahmednagar Fort.
