Which one amongst the following has the largest livestock population in the world?

Show the answer and explanation

Answer: (c) India

India has the world’s largest livestock population — about 536 million (20th Livestock Census, 2019), led by cattle and buffalo.

The idea

India is the world’s largest milk producer (about a quarter of global output), thanks to its huge cattle and buffalo numbers.

Why the others are wrong

(a) Brazil has the largest commercial cattle herd for beef, but fewer livestock overall.

(b) China leads in pigs and poultry, but India has more livestock in total.

(d) The USA has far fewer animals, though very high output per animal.

The trap

Brazil and the USA are beef giants, so they feel like the answer. The question is about NUMBERS of animals, not meat output.

🔒 India: largest livestock population and largest milk producer. Buffalo give about half of India’s milk.
