Archaeopteryx, the earliest known bird, lived about 150 million years ago (Late Jurassic).

The idea

The oldest known bird is Archaeopteryx, found in limestone in Germany. It had feathers and wings like a bird, and also teeth, clawed fingers and a long bony tail like a reptile. It shows that birds came from small feathered dinosaurs.

Why the others are wrong

(a) 300 million years ago there were only early reptiles.

(b) Dinosaurs first appeared about 230 million years ago.
