- (a) The Earth Summit on Sustainable Development 2002, Johannesburg
- (b) The United Nations Conference on Sustainable Development 2012, Rio de Janeiro
- (c) The United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change 2015, Paris

Show the answer and explanation
Answer: (b) The United Nations Conference on Sustainable Development 2012, Rio de Janeiro
PAGE was launched in 2013 in response to the call at Rio+20 (2012) to support green economies.
The idea
Each big UN environment conference had one main idea. Match the idea in the question to the conference. “Green economy” was one of the two themes of Rio+20 in 2012.
Stockholm 1972: human environment → UNEP → Rio 1992: Agenda 21, UNFCCC, CBD → Johannesburg 2002: implementation of Agenda 21 → Rio+20, 2012: green economy, start of the SDGs → New York 2015: SDGs adopted
Why the others are wrong
(a) Johannesburg 2002 reviewed ten years of Agenda 21. Its focus was implementation and partnerships, not the green economy.
(c) Paris 2015 produced the Paris Agreement.
(d) The WSDS is an annual TERI event in Delhi.
The trap
“green economy” is the theme of Rio+20.
