Answer: (b) Pitcher plant

The pitcher plant’s leaf forms a jug of digestive fluid that traps insects.

The idea

Insect-eating plants use different kinds of traps. The pitcher plant uses a pitfall: a jug with slippery walls and digestive fluid at the bottom.

Pitfall: pitcher plant → Sticky drops: sundew (Drosera) → Snap trap: Venus flytrap → Suction bladder under water: bladderwort (Utricularia)

Why the others are wrong

(a) The passion flower is an ordinary flowering climber.

(c) Night queen (raat ki rani) is a fragrant ornamental shrub.

(d) Flame of the forest (palash) is a tree.

Also know

India’s only pitcher plant, Nepenthes khasiana, grows wild only in the hills of Meghalaya and is endangered. Sundews and bladderworts are found in many parts of India.
