Rawa offshore block with great potential of oil is located on
- (a) Krishna - Godavari basin
- (b) Cauvery basin
- (c) Mahanadi basin
- (d) Palar - Pennar basin
Show the answer and explanation
Answer: (a) Krishna - Godavari basin
Ravva is an offshore oil field in the Krishna–Godavari basin.
The idea
An offshore field is a hydrocarbon deposit beneath the seabed. Basin names identify the geological setting, while a field or block name identifies a smaller area within it. The nearby river delta is a location anchor, not the material from which the oil itself forms.
Why the others are wrong
(b) The Cauvery basin has Narimanam.
Also know
KG-D6 is another Krishna–Godavari hydrocarbon anchor. Narimanam belongs to the Cauvery basin; Mumbai High lies offshore in the Arabian Sea. Onshore and offshore portions of one basin can both contain oil and gas.
🔒 KG basin: Ravva, KG-D6 (Reliance gas).
