Consider the following pairs: National Park – River flowing through the park Which of the above pairs is/are correctly matched?
- Corbett National Park – Ganga
- Kaziranga National Park – Manas
- Silent Valley National Park – Kaveri
- (a) 1 and 2
- (b) 3 only
- (c) 1 and 3
- (d) None
Show the answer and explanation
Answer: (d) None
All three rivers are wrong.
Statement by statement
1. ✗ WRONG The Ramganga flows through Corbett National Park.
2. ✗ WRONG The Brahmaputra flows along Kaziranga; the Manas flows through Manas National Park.
3. ✗ WRONG The Kunthipuzha flows through Silent Valley.
The idea
A park may protect the valley of a tributary rather than the main river of its wider basin. A river along a park boundary is also different from one crossing its interior. Match the local channel instead of substituting the region’s most famous river.
Why the others are wrong
(a) Corbett – Ramganga; Kaziranga – Brahmaputra.
(b) Silent Valley – Kunthipuzha, not the Kaveri.
(c) Both are wrong.
The trap
The Manas is a real river in a real park — just not Kaziranga.
Elimination technique
Corbett’s local river is Ramganga, so pair 1 removes (a) and (c). Silent Valley drains through Kunthipuzha, so pair 3 removes (b), leaving “None”.
Also know
Manas National Park takes its name from the Manas river. Nagarhole is associated with the Kabini–Cauvery basin, and Papikonda with the Godavari gorge. Kunthipuzha belongs to the Bharathapuzha system, which drains west through Kerala; Silent Valley should not be moved into the Cauvery basin.
🔒 Corbett – Ramganga · Kaziranga – Brahmaputra · Manas – Manas · Silent Valley – Kunthipuzha · Periyar – Periyar.
