UPSC Prelims 2025 · Polity · Directive Principles & Duties

Consider the following pairs: (Provision in the Constitution of India — Stated under)

  1. Separation of Judiciary from the Executive in the public services of the State : The Directive Principles of the State Policy
  2. Valuing and preserving of the rich heritage of our composite culture : The Fundamental Duties
  3. Prohibition of employment of children below the age of 14 years in factories : The Fundamental Rights
Show the answer and explanation

Answer: (c) All the three

Art. 50 (DPSP), Art. 51A(f) (FD), Art. 24 (FR): all three match.

Statement by statement

1. ✓ CORRECT — Art. 50 Article 50 (Part IV): the State shall take steps to separate the judiciary from the executive in the public services of the State.

2. ✓ CORRECT — Art. 51A(f) Article 51A(f): “to value and preserve the rich heritage of our composite culture”.

3. ✓ CORRECT — Art. 24 Article 24 (Right against Exploitation): no child below 14 shall be employed in any factory or mine or any other hazardous employment.

The idea

Child protection is split across three Parts: Art. 24 (FR: no child under 14 in factories/mines), Art. 21A (FR: free education 6–14), Art. 39(e)(f) and 45 (DPSP: childhood not abused; early care till 6), and Art. 51A(k) (FD: parents to give education, 6–14).

Why the others are wrong

(a) Only one would mean two provisions sit in the wrong Part. Each is in exactly the Part named.

(b) Usually people drop pair 3, thinking child labour is a DPSP. Art. 24 is a Fundamental Right.

(d) No pair is mismatched.

The trap

In “how many pairs” questions UPSC often makes all pairs correct. Check each on its own; do not assume one must be wrong.

🔒 Separation of judiciary = Art. 50 (DPSP) · composite culture = 51A(f) (FD) · child under 14 in factory = Art. 24 (FR).
