Find the odd one out:

Show the answer and explanation

Answer: (c) Magha

Magha is a month, not one of the six ritus.

The idea

A month and a season are different calendar categories. The traditional six-season arrangement groups periods of the year into ritus, usually with two months each. A month name remains a month even if it strongly suggests a particular season. The odd member is identified by category, not by its weather.

Why the others are wrong

(a) Greeshma is a season (summer).

(b) Shishira is a season (late winter).

(d) Sharad is a season (autumn).

Also know

Chaitra and Vaishakha are traditionally paired with Vasanta; Magha and Phalguna with Shishira. Calendar conventions and local weather do not always align perfectly. Meteorological seasons used for Indian weather reports follow a different grouping: winter, pre-monsoon, south-west monsoon and post-monsoon. Neither system makes a month identical to a season.

🔒 Six ritus: Vasanta, Grishma, Varsha, Sharad, Hemanta, Shishira.
