UPPCS Polity Gap Sheet: Schedules and Parts.

UPPCS has asked all 20 of these. Read this page as a full revision list: these are the facts that come back.

First, the concept

The Constitution began with 8 Schedules; four were added later: 9th (1951, land laws), 10th (1985, anti-defection), 11th (1992, Panchayats) and 12th (1992, Municipalities). Each new Schedule tells you which amendment made it.

Parts were added the same way: IVA Fundamental Duties (42nd), IXA Municipalities (74th), IXB Co-operative Societies (97th), XIVA Tribunals (42nd).

✅ Already asked (20)

The twelve Schedules

  • First Schedule · Names of States and Union Territories with their territories
  • Second Schedule · Salaries and allowances of the President, Governors, judges, CAG, Speaker
  • Third Schedule · Forms of oaths and affirmations (not the President's)
  • Fourth Schedule · Rajya Sabha seats for States and UTs
  • Fifth Schedule · Scheduled Areas and Scheduled Tribes (other than the North-East four)
  • Sixth Schedule · Tribal areas of Assam, Meghalaya, Tripura, Mizoram; Autonomous District Councils
  • Seventh Schedule · Union, State and Concurrent Lists
  • Eighth Schedule · 22 languages; started with 14; Sindhi (1967), Konkani, Manipuri, Nepali (1992), Bodo, Dogri, Maithili, Santhali (2003)
  • Ninth Schedule · Laws shielded from court review (1st Amendment 1951); I. R. Coelho (2007) opened post-1973 entries to review
  • Tenth Schedule · Anti-defection (52nd Amendment 1985); Presiding Officer decides
  • Eleventh Schedule · 29 subjects for Panchayats (73rd Amendment)
  • Twelfth Schedule · 18 subjects for Municipalities (74th Amendment)

Parts worth knowing

  • Part III and Part IV · Fundamental Rights; Directive Principles
  • Part IVA · Fundamental Duties, Article 51A (42nd Amendment)
  • Part IX and IXA · Panchayats; Municipalities
  • Part IXB · Co-operative Societies (97th Amendment 2011)
  • Part XIVA · Tribunals, Articles 323A and 323B (42nd Amendment)
  • Part XVII · Official Language, Articles 343–351
  • Part XVIII · Emergency Provisions, Articles 352–360
  • Part XX and XXI · Amendment (368); Temporary, Transitional and Special Provisions

⚠️ The President's oath is in Article 60, not the Third Schedule. The Sixth Schedule covers only four North-East States; the rest of India's tribal areas fall under the Fifth. The Ninth Schedule is not a full shield since the I. R. Coelho case.

'Asked' and 'not asked' are checked against every UPPCS question on this site. 'Not asked yet' does not mean it will surely come.
