Show the answer and explanation

Answer: (a) Wildlife sanctuary

Bandipur (Karnataka) is a wildlife sanctuary / national park and tiger reserve.

The idea

Bandipur in Karnataka was once the private hunting ground of the Maharajas of Mysore. Hunting reserves of rulers often survived as forest and later became sanctuaries and parks; Ranthambore, Keoladeo and Gir have the same history.

Royal hunting reserve → Wildlife sanctuary → National park → Tiger reserve (1973, among the first nine) → Part of the Nilgiri Biosphere Reserve (1986)

Also know

Bandipur joins Nagarhole (Karnataka), Mudumalai (Tamil Nadu) and Wayanad (Kerala) to form one continuous forest with the largest populations of tigers and Asian elephants in the country. Night traffic on the highway through it is banned to protect animals.

🔒 Bandipur (Karnataka): part of the Nilgiri Biosphere Reserve; one of the first tiger reserves.
