Consider the following pairs: Tribe – State Which of the above pairs are correctly matched?

  1. Limboo (Limbu) : Sikkim
  2. Karbi : Himachal Pradesh
  3. Dongaria Kondh : Odisha
  4. Bonda : Tamil Nadu.
Show the answer and explanation

Answer: (a) 1 and 3 only

Limbu – Sikkim and Dongria Kondh – Odisha are correct.

Statement by statement

1. ✓ CORRECT The Limbu live in Sikkim (and eastern Nepal).

2. ✗ WRONG The Karbi are from Assam (Karbi Anglong).

3. ✓ CORRECT The Dongria Kondh live in the Niyamgiri hills of Odisha.

4. ✗ WRONG The Bonda are a PVTG of Odisha’s Malkangiri hills.

The idea

Tribal geography is easier to retain through local anchors than through isolated State names. A hill or district name often fixes the region. Test each pair independently, because two communities from the same State may appear with different State labels in the list.

Why the others are wrong

(b) Both are mismatched.

(c) The Bonda are in Odisha, not Tamil Nadu.

(d) Two pairs are wrong.

The trap

The Bonda sound southern; they are Odisha’s hill people.

Elimination technique

Karbi Anglong places the Karbi in Assam and removes (b) and (d). The Odisha home of Bonda then removes (c), selecting (a).

Also know

Lepcha are another Sikkim community; Mising and Bodo are other Assam communities. Odisha also has Juang and Saura communities. Dongria Kondh and Bonda are distinct particularly vulnerable tribal groups; sharing a State does not imply the same language or culture.

🔒 Dongria Kondh: Niyamgiri (Vedanta case, 2013 gram sabhas). Bonda, Dongria Kondh: PVTGs of Odisha.
