Copper deposits in India are found in
- (a) Singhbhum
- (b) Kolar
- (c) Salem
- (d) Karanpura
Show the answer and explanation
Answer: (a) Singhbhum
Singhbhum (Jharkhand) has copper (Ghatsila).
The idea
A district or belt can contain several minerals, but its best-known deposit provides the specific match. Copper ores need mining and concentration before the metal is recovered. A gold belt or coal basin should not be substituted merely because it is also a mining region.
Why the others are wrong
(b) Kolar is gold.
(c) Salem is magnesite/iron.
(d) Karanpura is coal.
Also know
Khetri in Rajasthan and Malanjkhand in Madhya Pradesh are the other major copper anchors to carry. Ghatsila and Mosabani identify the Singhbhum copper region. Pyrolusite is associated with manganese, while hematite and magnetite are iron ores.
