The Narimanam oil field is located in

Show the answer and explanation

Answer: (c) Cauvery delta

Narimanam oil field is in the Cauvery delta (Tamil Nadu).

The idea

A delta and its offshore continuation can cover a thick sedimentary basin. Buried organic matter, porous reservoir rock and a sealing layer are the key ingredients for hydrocarbon accumulation. A field must be tied to its basin rather than to any nearby east-flowing river.

Why the others are wrong

(d) The KG basin is further north.

Also know

The Krishna–Godavari basin is a separate hydrocarbon region farther north. Mumbai High is an Arabian Sea offshore anchor, while Ankleshwar is onshore in the Cambay basin. Delta sedimentation is a useful basin clue, but it does not guarantee oil beneath every delta.

🔒 Cauvery basin: Narimanam, Kovilkalappal.
